What is acne?

Acne is a skin problem that affects the oil glands of the skin. The pimple develops when follicles of skin glands clog up. There are several types of pimples such as blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts. While acne is common with teenagers and young adults, it can also outgrow in adulthood.

The actual causes of acne are still not known. However, doctors think that there are several factors that cause acne. These factors include hormonal changes, starting or stopping birth control pills, heredity, greasy makeup, and some kinds of medications.

Skin experts advise against popping pimples because it can result in the dirt getting into the skin.

The fact is butt pimples are not actually pimples. Pimples develop when skin pores are clogged with excess oils, dead skin cells, and bacteria. However, the bumps on your butt are folliculitis, also known as inflamed or infected hair follicles.

Folliculitis is characterized by red pimples on butts and thighs due to infection of hair follicles. Hair follicles act as the roots of the hair where hair strands come from the hair follicles. When the bacteria attacks hair follicles, it becomes infected. This infection brings pimples, and the hair grows at the center of the pimples. This results in pimples filled with pus and tend to become painful. Burning sensation or itchy is usually associated with folliculitis.

What are the causes of butt acne?

Dry Skin

Butt skin is susceptible due to lack of moisturizing, and the pores on dry skin easily clog up. And since your butt is always in contact with clothing, it is most likely prone to irritation.

Tight Clothes

Tight clothing like yoga pants or synthetic underwear tends to trap sweat and bacteria against your skin and can cause irritation.

Sweat

Staying in your gym clothing keeps the bacteria and sweat on your skin. The bacteria and sweat tend to enter into your pores and begin causing you problems.

These red bumps become annoying. Can we get rid of them?

How do we prevent butt acne?

Take a shower every day

Wash your butt thoroughly when you shower daily using a washcloth to help exfoliate. This will keep other skin products including conditioner and shampoo from clogging up your skin pores.

Keep moisturized

We usually focus on our face, hands, and legs, but we tend to forget our butt. Moisturize regularly, including our butt. You can try moisturizing with a tea tree lotion for irritated skin because it contains natural antibacterial properties. Try avoiding heavy creams that most likely clog up the pores. Be sure to choose non-comedogenic.

Treat but avoid popping them

When pimples start appearing, treat them with iodine but never pop them, please!

Wear loose, breathable clothes

Skin experts recommend cotton underwear more often. This is because cotton underwears are breathable. They will keep your skin from clogging up.

Exfoliate gently

If the skin on your butt is rough, exfoliate it gently. Try using body scrubs and moisturize after. However, over-exfoliating can usually cause acne to worsen, which you do not want.

Shower immediately after workouts

This will allow you to cleanse your skin and remove bacteria and sweat that accumulate during workouts. Staying in your gym clothing will speed up the risks of clogging your skin pores.

Drink plenty and plenty of water

We all know that water naturally moisturizes our body from inside out. It allows your body to wash away toxins and helps clear up the skin.

Avoid sitting for a prolonged period

Try standing more often during the day, allowing your butt to breathe. Take some walking breaks.

Maintain good personal hygiene to prevent and control butt pimples

Missing your morning bath and wearing unwashed inner or underwear for several days will stimulate recurring outbreaks of these pimples. Wash your inners or underwear and change them daily to prevent bacterial infections. In cases of sweaty issues, wear light clothing to allow your skin to breathe. Avoid washing your butt and thigh with harsh soap. Drink water a lot and follow a healthy diet.

Take care of your skin using gentle skin care products

Know your skin type so that you will know the best and the right skin care products. There are body washes, lotions, creams, and laundry detergents that can cause breakouts because of their strong scents or dyes. Athletes who wear certain gear that rub on your legs or butts can cause blemishes. To prevent the accumulation of bacteria, take a shower immediately after workouts or after every sweaty activity.

If you have tried everything but pimples are still appearing or will not go away, visit a dermatologist to make sure that there are no severe skin issues.

How to treat butt acne

Treating butt is just like treating the acne on your face, although your body can endure stronger treatments. The skin in the legs and butt are not as sensitive as on your face. The over-the-counter acne products with benzoyl peroxide can be effective. These products can dry out blemishes and kill bacteria. However, for some individuals, these products may not be sufficient. For big nodules and cysts, you may need to visit and consult a dermatologist to remove any impurity inside the blemishes by surgical procedure, inject corticosteroid, or drain it to help treat the skin problem. Prescription treatments may be necessary for some severe cases – like antibiotics or isotretinoin to kill the bacteria or prevent the production of excess oils.
