Clearasil is one of the oldest and popular acne cure brands since 1950. Is Clearasil really good for your skin?
Clearasil manufactures cheap acne treatments that claim to treat pimples. The problem is that they use and combine so many skin care ingredients that usually cause burning, stinging, peeling, itching, and more. But they also provide cheap but effective creams and washes. Let us review at their leading products that perform effectively, and those that don’t do what they claim in their advertisements.
Clearasil DailyClear Face Wash (for Sensitive Skin)
This daily face wash for sensitive skin is actually their Clearasil Ultra Overnight Wash without the salicylic acid. After applying it to the skin, you have to wash it thoroughly. If you have sensitive skin type, you will not have any problem with this face wash or Ultra Overnight Wash. For US $5.29, both of these products can help clean your skin, but they will not clear up your pimples or blackheads.
Clearasil Ultra Overnight Wash
Clearasil Ultra Overnight Wash is marketed as “dermatologist tested and clinically tested to help visibly reduce redness and pimple size by morning to give visibly clearer skin.” It does remove dirt, grease, and makeup from your skin and with salicylic acid, it minimizes pimple size and redness. This overnight wash leaves your skin cleaner but not clearer. For US$8.99 for a 6.78 fluid, it is a good choice as a skin cleanser. However, the product has botanical extract known as helichrysum, avoid buying this if you have allergies to this ingredient or any of the ingredients of the product.
Clearasil DailyClear Oil-Free Face Wash
Clearasil tags: “Did you know that some cleansers may shrink your skin cells, making your face feel dry and uncomfortable? DailyClear Daily Face Wash is scientifically formulated to gently cleanse deep into your pores, moisturize and soften skin, and prevent over-drying.”
With an attractive price of US$4.99 for a 6.5-fluid oz, it does remove makeup without using cold creams. However, it contains the same ingredients a bar soap has and therefore, may over dry your skin especially if you have oily skin. It has menthol and fragrances that can lead to breakouts on very sensitive skin. And although it offers an attractive price for the product, you may need to spend more on concealers and skin restoration products if you use this face wash regularly.
Clearasil DailyClear Vanishing Acne Treatment Cream
This acne treatment cream from Clearasil provides 10% benzoyl peroxide to help kill acne-causing bacteria – fast – without the usual peach shade. It does kill the bacteria but just like the tinted version of Clearasil, it causes burning, itching, stinging and peeling when it is used on unblemished skin. It offers US$6.99 for a 1oz or 28 gram.
Clearasil DailyClear Tinted Acne Treatment Cream
The top-selling Clearasil acne product can be considered as the best. This peach-colored cream offers US$6.29 for their 1oz(28 g) tube. It has the 10% strength of benzoyl peroxide that kills bacteria in infected pimples within two days! This cream also serves as a concealer and if you have similar peach-colored skin tone, you may conceal your pimples and bumps effectively. This acne cream also softens sharp edges around your acne scars.
The best feature of this tinted acne treatment cream is it does work wonder as a spot treatment for pimples. Avoid using it on all over your face. The 10% strength of benzoyl peroxide may cause irritation on unblemished skin.
Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Treatment Cream
This ultra-rapid acne treatment cream may be a good option if you have both blackheads and pimples. It has benzoyl peroxide that kills bacteria in pimples and glycolic acid that breaks up the “sticky” on the dead skin cells around blackheads.
They promote that the product can remove pimples within 4 hours or less. It is an overstatement but you can observe changes within 24 hours. It will not provide you with a complete resolution on your blemishes in less than a week. Just like the other products of Clearasil, this cream is too strong to use on your whole face.
Clearasil Pore Cleansing Pads
Pore cleansing pads from Clearasil with its sodium hydroxide, also known as lye, are supposed to help remove makeup and dirt from your face. Lye with salicylic acid is supposed to help open skin pores. Sodium hydroxide is used to remove oil and makeup and balances salicylic acid for the pads to be effective. These pore cleansing pads have alcohol and menthol that can increase the production of sebum, especially on sensitive skin. It offers US$5.49 for 90 pads, but it does not worth it. We do not recommend it.
Clearasil Ultra Acne Solution System
This acne solution system from Clearasil offers US$24.99: StayClear Daily Face Wash (5 oz/150ml), StayClear Daily Toner (5oz/150ml), StayClear Daily Lotion (1.5oz/45ml), and a tube of quick-start benzoyl peroxide gel for disinfecting pimples.
The gel has the ability to disinfect pimples, but the other products in this kit have serious downsides. The face wash has 2% concentration of salicylic acid that supposed to remove dead skin cells around your blackheads. But when you wash this ingredient, it washes away before it becomes effective.
The lotion has menthols that can increase the production of more oil on some skin types. Its daily toner has salicylic acid and a 2.3pH, which is so low and the combination can burn your skin. The toner has a large amount of isopropyl alcohol which can actually dry out your skin.
Our final notes,
Clearasil is one of the most popular skin care product brands that offer cheap acne solutions. Some of their products are effective, and others are not.
If you do not experience stinging, burning, itching, and peeling after using their products with benzoyl peroxide, then their acne treatment cream may be a good choice to kill bacteria in pimples.
Clearasil face washes can cleanse your skin but they will not clear up acne. Their acne pads may create new blemishes by drying your skin. Most of their acne products are so acidic that can burn and peel your skin.
