Most often teens have at least one whitehead or blackhead, but others develop severe acne that usually results in scarring. Skin experts claim that the primary causes of acne are hormones and heredity. During puberty period, oil glands or sebaceous around the skin’s hair follicles enlarge. Oil production increases too. As a result, the ducts around the hair follicles become clogged leading to blackheads or whiteheads (comedo).

Generally, blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples can clear up quickly. However, for other individuals, acne can lead to severely painful, cyst-like lesions. Take note that acne may continue for many years or until adulthood. For some, it may disappear when the individual reaches his/her early 20’s.

Teens can control their acne, as long as they avoid making their acne worse by some treatments that are harsh for their young and glowing skin. We have prepared some useful tips and acne treatments that may work. We hope that you can find something that is effective in controlling acne.

Cheaper Acne Treatment for Teens

There is basic, cheaper acne treatment. This involves washing your skin with a cleanser twice daily but you need to wash it immediately.

You may have to use an expensive skincare product like Dove white soap. Some experts do not recommend Ivory soap since it can clog your skin pores. You can also get an affordable cleanser such as Neutrogena Oil-Free Cleanser, which is effective for acne-prone skin. This cleanser performs better if you do not wear makeup.

Avoid rubbing these products on the skin of your face but wash first your hands. Then squeeze out a small amount of the product content on your fingers. Leave it on the skin for about 30 seconds and wash it thoroughly with warm water. Pat dry with a clean towel.

Expensive Acne Treatment for Teens

You can choose expensive acne products. You may get an appointment with a dermatologist to have your pimples injected with steroids. Treatments such as prednisone and prednisolone flatten pimples that they may return to the shape of the skin. Redness can dramatically disappear overnight, although you may need to apply a concealer.

The drawback of using steroid treatment for pimples is the excessive use of steroids can lead thinning of the skin causing permanent lightening of your skin. If you have Asian skin tone, steroids may be a good option for pimples. Consult a doctor to determine the right steroids for you.

Choose Spot Treatments over Face Lotions

Benzoyl peroxide is known to kill acne-causing bacteria quickly. However, it can also kill the upper layer of your delicate skin. It is recommended that instead of rubbing the entire face with benzoyl peroxide lotion, apply a benzoyl peroxide gel with 5% to 10% strength – ONLY on pimples. They may not disappear immediately, but most of the teens who did this method, pimples disappear within 1 to 2 weeks. If you apply the same 5% to 10% strength skin product on your whole face, it can burn, sting, peel and develop blemishes on your skin. This skin care kit from Paula’s Choice may help you get rid of those pimples.

Cool down after Gym

Teens can easily get skin conditions known as acne mechanical, or popularly known as friction acne. Any activity that involves skin and friction can lead to acne in almost any areas of your young, growing body. This includes personal practices like wearing underpads or straps during workouts. Tight clothing traps sweat. Sweat makes your skin flake and wrinkle. The flakes of your skin get trapped in the pores and can cause pimples and blackheads. Taking a bath after workouts will help to remove these skin flakes from the pores. Good exfoliant may be helpful. Just get a good shower within 4 hours after your workout will do.

Always use clean towels

Make sure that you are using clean towels after washing your face or after taking a shower. Using a clean towel keeps the dirt and germs away. If you do not have enough towels to use every time you need to use them, fold the clean towel into quarters. Then, use a different part of the towel each you have to use it. This method will help you using the same towel for two days for drying your face. However, it is still better if you can use a fresh clean towel every time you wash your face or take your shower.

Studies show that milk chocolates or chocolates per se do not cause breakouts, except for individuals who are allergic to them. Dark chocolates have the ability to increase the release of stress hormones in the skin that may cause pimples. In some severe cases, eating even one 4 oz (112 grams) of a dark chocolate bar may cause up to 85 pimples. If you notice that you develop breakouts whenever you are stressed, avoid dark chocolates.

Avoid zapping your zits, please

If you are thinking of that battery-powered “zit zapper” that heats metal contact rod to shrink pimples, forget about it. Pimples usually shrink, but the heat can infect further your skin, leaving a cyst instead of a pimple.

Conceal them

If you cannot treat pimples quickly, conceal them with makeup. Or, you may follow the basic method of concealing a red pimple using a green concealer, then hide the green makeup with a foundation makeup that is close to your natural skin tone.

Or, you may hide your pimple with a layer of foundation makeup, especially if you have an oily skin type.

Avoid touching your face with your hands

Avoid touching your face unless you have washed them. By doing this, there will be lesser risks of developing acne as well as you will less likely to get flu and colds. If you want help from acne products, we recommend a complete acne treatment system like DeeVoo Skin Care Acne Treatment System.

Choose a skin-friendly diet

Choosing a healthy skin-friendly diet means avoiding too much eating at fast foods. Although, not all fats are acne triggers but the oils that are used to fry fast foods quickly. Mayonnaise, butter, cheese, and lard are not necessarily harmful to your skin. And not all veggies are skin-friendly. Experts claim that too much eating of carrots and tomatoes may increase the production of oil in the skin. Eating them on a daily basis may be too much, but taking them once every week is fine.

Our final notes,

If you do not enough budget for acne care regime, soap and water may still help. But if you have some hundred dollars to spend, you may go to a dermatologist every month for a steroid injection to shrink pimples overnight.

Too much of anything can harm, rather than do good. Too much scrubbing can harm your skin and too benzoyl peroxide or any topical retinoid cream can make your face red and scaly. And too much oral antibiotics can cause severe side effects.

But nothing beat taking a shower within 4 hours after workouts and using fresh, clean towels on your face and skin. This will prevent skin conditions and infections that can cause acne. When you have to apply some acne and pimple formula as spot treatments, rather than applying them on your entire face. Avoid touching your face unless they are washed clean.

Promote a healthy diet and avoid fast foods and fried snacks loaded with unhealthy oil.

The best thing is not to be anxious about what others think. It is depressing to have pimples and acne and some people may say unkind words. Just try not to let them bother you. Remember that most teenagers can get pimples and acne. Acne is also temporary and there are hundreds of cure options to keep your acne under control.
